We were thrilled to attend the AIA NSW Architecture Awards gala and accept a Commendation in the Educational Architecture category for Hilltops Young High School Library

The project on Wiradjuri Country demonstrates a sensitive balancing of the Aboriginal, European, and Chinese histories that were overlaid on site. Encouraging lifelong learning, the facility is notable for its shared use by school and town communities.

Connecting deeply to Wiradjuri Country and the project’s historic setting, the Hilltops Young High School Library is an integrated joint-use facility enabling whole-of-life learning for the community of Hilltops. Diverse facilities include a vast collection of library books including children’s, Wiradjuri learning centre and extensive community facilities such as an art gallery, wellbeing consulting, tertiary study centre, presentation space, creative arts, multimedia and maker spaces and a café.

The project a result of extensive collaboration between School Infrastructure NSW and local government Hilltops Council, educators and community representatives. Listed on the School Infrastructure NSW website are all the community benefits the facility provides, a video of a staff and students tour, and a completion fly through.

Sincere thanks to jury members Thierry Lacoste (Chair), Martina Novakova, and Hannah Bolitho, along with category sponsor, Bondor.
