Hayball was engaged to design the first stage of St Jude’s masterplan, which we had developed for the school. The project involves the extensive refurbishment of an existing split-level classroom building, to revitalise it for use as a much-needed learning hub for the Junior Primary cohort (Prep-Year 2). The refurbishment includes both external and internal improvements, creating six General Learning Areas, a staff room, two dedicated breakout spaces for small group instruction and specialist consultations, and a wet project area for arts and sciences. A large central multipurpose space connects all these functions.

The school wanted the building to be a strong point of welcome and entry. The building’s main entry was relocated to address the carpark and create a main entry point to the campus. A new outdoor learning area supports this initiative, providing a large covered space for learning and play activities. Additionally, it accommodates other school community functions and serves as a ‘front porch’ for the school.
