Last week, we were honoured to attend the UDIA Victorian Awards and celebrate the success of 15 Thompson Street in Kensington and Preston Crossing with our clients and collaborators.
15 Thompson Street Kensington, designed by Hayball for Assemble, was announced as the winner in the Apartments Mid-Rise category, with the jury recognising the team’s commitment to create healthier, socially connected and financially sustainable lives for more Australians facing barriers to home ownership.
‘The entire design and social infrastructure fosters community connection. The vision was to create accessible, comfortable housing with low running costs and minimal environmental impact in a modern, community-centric precinct.
The emphasis on affordable quality, innovation, design and detail has produced an outstanding development providing a different offer to most in Melbourne, with plans to deliver this concept nationally.’ – UDIA Awards Jury Citation.
We would also like to extend our congratulations to MAB and Nightingale Housing, for being awarded in two categories: the Boutique Development Townhouse category (Townhouses by Archier) and the Design category (Nightingale Housing by Breathe).
The jury recognised the ‘generous communal spaces, productive gardens, shared outdoor spaces, landscaped laneways, a pocket park, an art gallery, a children’s art teaching space, and a large café with generous outdoor seating – all of which invite interaction between neighbours, and the broader community.’ Hayball led the masterplan for Preston Crossing: a mixed-tenure residential community offering a range of family-oriented apartments, townhouses and Nightingale housing, regenerating 1.4ha of land in a central pocket of Preston.
We extend our congratulations and thanks to both our clients and all collaborators. Both projects’ success stands as a testament to the collective effort and dedication towards advancing the Australian housing sector.
