Honours for Library at the Dock and Bravo

29 June 2015

Authored by Hayball

Hayball is delighted by the recognition of two key projects at this year’s Victorian Architecture Awards, announced by the Australian Institute of Architects on 26 June 2015.

Library at the Dock, Docklands (with Clare Design and City of Melbourne) was honoured with the state’s top award for sustainability, taking out the Allan and Beth Coldicutt Award for Sustainable Architecture. The project also received a Commendation for Public Architecture (New).

The Sustainable Architecture Award recognises achievement in sustainable design that excels as architecture, and exhibits innovation and excellence. Acknowledged by the jury for going “beyond  building code and fashions to explore environmental and socially sustainable solutions”, the Library at the Dock celebrates community with diverse opportunities for the broad social mix of local residents, workers and visitors, providing a long overdue civic building for the Docklands neighbourhood.

Hayball acknowledges Lend Lease, Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne for setting high sustainability and design aspirations for the library project, and the full design and consultant team, in particular  design architect Clare Design.

Bravo, Carlton, a residential building offering a diverse mix of apartment types, was commended in the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing category. Jury chair Jeremy McLeod applauded Bravo for “providing a spacious apartment mix for inner city owner occupiers via an effortless and simple urban planning response”. Hayball extends thanks to client / builder Vaughan Constructions for sharing its commitment to the delivery of high quality housing.
