Celebrating the role  of the education library as the heart of the student learning experience, the Information Resource Centre at Carey Baptist Grammar School is the gateway to the new Centre for Learning & Innovation (CLI). It’s the “coolest library ever!” – according to the students – and has been shortlisted in the inaugural Australian Library Design Awards.

Senior associate and interior designer, Miranda Holt, said a key design challenge was to bring library, eLearning and ICT teams into a central access zone for information expertise to support the innovative and creative learning focus of the whole CLI building.

“We achieved this with an exciting Information Commons thoroughfare, with three ‘shopfronts’: an eLearning makerspace, the ICT Link desk, and the library Helpzone and Lounge entry points,” she said. “The spaces in the new library powerfully engage the physicality of learning as a dynamic force in the school’s culture.”

The awards will be announced at the Library Design Conference being held at Library at the Dock, Melbourne, on June 19. Director Richard Leonard, project director of the CLI, will be a key note speaker.

The Carey CLI is also shortlisted in the Australian Interior Design Awards (Public category), being announced on June 9.
