Over $10,000 raised to help combat homelessness

11 May 2017

Authored by Hayball

On Thursday 4 May, a team from Hayball led by Director David Tweedie spent a night in the cold at the MCG to raise more than $10,000 for Melbourne City Mission.

On any given night, over 7,000 young Victorians have no secure place to call home. Melbourne City Mission provides a huge range of life changing opportunities for homeless young people – across education, housing, health, employment and justice. It’s a critical social issue, and one championed in our practice by Associate Lisa Horton.

“This was Hayball’s third year participating in Sleep at The G – more than just encouraging staff to support social issues that we’re passionate about, the entire practice gets behind us for this event,” said Lisa. “There’s a great atmosphere in the office in the lead up to the night, with office wide fundraising events including soup kitchens and morning teas”.

More than just a way to bring our colleagues together around our shared social conscience, the event is one with strong links to Hayball’s work in architectural practice. With strong portfolios in both the education and residential sectors, it’s our commitment to creating engaging, community focused places for living and learning that draws us to the work of Melbourne City Mission. Through programs and services to assist young people to break the cycle of disadvantage, particularly around education and housing, the work of Melbourne City Mission is critical to the Victorian community and something that we are incredibly proud to support.

Hayball has made a five year commitment to Sleep at The G, and in our first three years our teams have raised over $56,000 thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Beyond our friends and families, Hayball invited clients, consultants and suppliers to contribute to the cause and we have been humbled by the goodwill in our industry.

Melbourne City Mission will be accepting donations for the 2017 event until July 1.  To help us support young people experiencing homelessness in Victoria, contributions can be made at: mycause.com.au/page/147910/hayball.

Our thanks to all contributors for your donations.
