Ruyton Girls’ School Performing Arts Centre + Learning Resources Centre Wurundjeri Country | Kew, Melbourne
Sited within Ruyton’s tight inner-urban campus in Kew, the new Performing Arts Centre (PAC) and refurbished Foundation Building Learning Resource Centre (LRC) are keystone elements of the masterplan vision for the campus. Designed in association with SDA, the new PAC will deliver an exemplary performance venue, capable of showcasing student productions ranging from classical music to contemporary musical theatre, while supporting whole-of-school gathering for assembly and presentation.
Associated facilities include teaching and rehearsal spaces, creating a distinctive identity for the vibrant music and drama departments. A specialist team of consultants, including theatre and acoustic engineers, ensure the highest acoustic quality and effective modal variation within the auditorium to support school teaching and performance programs. The new facility is located adjacent to the heritage Derham House, which will continue to support music programs through the provision of music teaching spaces within a refurbished heritage shell. The new building is distinguished architecturally, creating a dynamic and contemporary new gateway for the school, while maintaining a respectful presence in scale and materiality.
Ruyton Girls’ School is a Joint Venture with Sally Draper Architects (SDA) who has led the brief, the building planning and envelope design.
