On Thursday, Hayball announced that Kit Ku, based in our Sydney Studio, has been promoted to the role of Principal.

Director Dave Tordoff explains the importance of the Principal role at Hayball to include the building of external networks to generate business, taking carriage of portfolios of projects, helping to establish future business direction, and supporting the growth of colleagues. “The combination of Kit’s skills in concept design, business development, and pastoral care are very much what we look for in leadership at Hayball. Kit is an exemplar talent, her appointment to Principal will expand her influence across the practice and help us continue to provide the very best creative solutions for our clients.”

A design-focused member of the Hayball leadership team, Kit has led a diverse range of public and education projects including the Liverpool Community and Education Precinct, Western Sydney Community and Mixed-Use Development, and TAFE NSW’s Connected Learning Points. She is adept at building and developing a strong rapport with clients and her expertise in complex stakeholder engagement ensures user-centric design is achieved. “Kit has played a really instrumental role in positioning for major projects that we’ve been undertaking in recent years. Kit brings great expertise in stakeholder communication and uses digital tools in a personal and engaging way that clients love”, says fellow Principal Graham Legerton.

Kit notes, “the process of co-creation is a strong part of my design methodology, the journey is just as important as the final creation. Especially on projects with multiple stakeholders, it is crucial to engage everyone during the process and get buy-in along the way. I approach design and leadership the same way, with open communication, passion, tenacity, and a strong human focus – it gives me great joy in knowing I can make a change.”

Through her leadership role, Kit has displayed a genuine commitment to championing women and diversity in practice. She recently committed to sponsoring fellow architect Laura Graham in the Property Council’s ‘500 Women in Property Program’ and is also Laura’s mentor as part of the Hayball GROW program.

Congratulations Kit! And thank you for your continued commitment to Hayball.
