Celebrating Staff Promotions 2023

15 September 2023

Authored by Hayball

Hayball is very pleased to announce a suite of recent promotions across our national practice, with each reflecting an exceptional skillset, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a passion for their work.

Mentorship, enquiry, and ongoing learning are key aspects of Hayball’s culture, and these promotions acknowledge the embodiment of these values along with their fostering in mentees and our team.

We offer our sincere congratulations to these highly valued colleagues and thank them for their outstanding contribution.

Thomas Gilbert Appointed to Hayball Board

Hayball is proud to appoint Thomas Gilbert to the board. Since joining Hayball as a graduate in 2009, Thomas has demonstrated core leadership characteristics. He has consistently sought out complex projects and pivotal roles, particularly in major housing projects including student accommodation, built-to-rent, and social and affordable housing.

Sarah Buckeridge, Co-Managing Principal, says of Thomas, “We’ve been impressed by his clarity of purpose, capacity to navigate complex project processes, generosity in sharing knowledge, understanding of the needs of our clients and their business drivers, and ability to identify opportunities within the market and work assiduously to develop networks and promote Hayball to a broad audience.”

Welcome to the board table, Thom!

Kerlina Bahari, Senior Associate

Kerlina has worked on over 120 projects across various sectors during her time with us – expanding her cross-sectoral knowledge while refining skillsets in spatial design, planning and exemplary detailing. A spirit of generosity and care, for both architectural design and stakeholders, has seen Kerlina build enduring relationships while driving the career development of those around her.

Rob Chan, Associate

With an impressive array of strengths, Rob has worked on almost 100 projects during his time at Hayball. He has been instrumental in developing new client relationships and managing design standards. A brilliant mentor, Rob ‘leads from behind’. His ‘Servant leadership’ style manifests in everything he does both internally, working with Hayball and external teams nationally and locally, as well as externally through university teaching and other culture building initiatives.

Lin Cai, Associate

Since joining Hayball as a graduate, Lin has proven her ability to balance the high-level management of a project with the resolution of its finest details – exemplified in a beautiful series of bespoke residential projects. The embodiment of Hayball’s leadership values, Lin welcomes different points of view and drives projects through her humility and innate desire to learn.

Saifee Akil Bahrainwala, Associate

Many of Hayball’s significant projects have benefited from Saifee’s contribution. A dedicated individual with an uncommon commitment to quality, Saifee generously shares his knowledge – combining rigour with an uplifting sense of humour to instil trust and goodwill amongst his team.

Melissa Riley, Associate

One of the first to join Hayball’s Sydney studio, Melissa has played a fundamental role in its growing presence in New South Wales’s design ecology. Having previously assessed developments of State significance in her role as a Senior Design Advisor to the Government Architect NSW, Melissa now deploys her design expertise and interpersonal skills to showcase Hayball’s social values to government and industry bodies. As a passionate advocate for gender equity and inclusion, Melissa represents Hayball in the Champions of Change coalition space as our Implementation Leader.

Jun Huh, Associate

Jun is an exceptional and highly experienced senior designer, uncommonly working across both interiors and landscape. He has played a key role in residential projects throughout all phases, consistently injecting energy and adding value. Jun’s versatility as a designer has been highly appreciated, as has his signature generosity as a collaborator.
